The Lakes, Queen Louise’s Bridge

About The Lakes, Queen Louise’s Bridge
Before the 1500s the lakes were one long stream with no bridges. As Copenhagen city was expanding more water for water mills was needed and so a dam was created creating what is now called “Peblinge” Lake. This is the lake you see here. In 1523 an attack on Copenhagen increased the need for better fortifications, so more lakes where shaped with dams enabling the lakes to be flooded in case of an attack. The lakes also served as water reservoirs for drinking water but were later discontinued due to low quality. Now it is a beautiful place where the locals run around enjoy the sun shine. If you are interested in giving it a go the distance around all the lakes are about 6 km or 3.7 miles.
