Towards the light statue

About Towards the light statue
This statue is a monument in celebration of Niels Finsen, the first Danish physician who won the nobel price in medicine in 1903 for his breakthrough discovery of using sunlight and various forms of concentrated light as a method to treat various illnesses. The statue shows three women and a man reaching up towards the light in an aspirational posture. Unfortunately, his breakthrough in medicine was unable to help him fight his own illness why he died early in life at the age of 44. Fittingly, the statue is placed in the square between Denmarks largest hospital and the medical school in Denmark. It was unveiled in 1909 to celebrate the grand achievement.
