About Amalienborg Palace
Amalienborg palace is the main residence of the Danish monarch, and several members of the royal family. The palace consists of 4 mansions around the octagonal square with the equestrian statue of King Frederik the 5th in the center, the founder of Amalienborg Palace and the area it is located in called Frederiksstaden. The four mansions were originally intended to be used by 4 noblemen close to King Frederik the 5th but after Christiansborg castle burned down, the royal family moved into Amalienborg Palace in 1794 and has used the palace since as main residence in Copenhagen.
