Assistens Cemetery

Om Assistens Cemetery
Assistens Cemetery is the burial site of a large number of Danish notables as well as an important green space in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen. Inaugurated in 1760, it was originally a burial site for the poor, laid out to relieve the crowded graveyards inside the walled city, which is why the name was chosen as “Assistens”. It is assisting the inner city graveyards. In the 1800s it became mundane and many leading figures of the epoch, such as Hans Christian Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard are buried on the premises.
